With FIRST Washington’s commitment to equity and access, we are pleased to partner with three of our FIRST Robotics Competition teams to host half day workshops for all coaches, mentors and volunteers. We have a professional DEI facilitator, Tareena Joubert joining us for these days.
The goal of these workshops is to support our communities, coaches and mentors in welcoming all students. Part of the success in recruiting students is broadening our base of coaches/mentors and volunteers who look like students. Helping FIRST broaden our base of adults to include more women, persons of color, diverse professional backgrounds will help us position FIRST programs as inclusive and welcoming to all. 2.League Placement
I will be working next week to place teams into leagues.We still have quite a few teams that have not registered with FIRST in New Hampshire which makes it hard for me to create the leagues right now.Leagues will be posted on the firstwa website no later than Tuesday, October 8.If teams register after leagues are posted, we will place them in the league closest to them that has available space
3.FTC Build Day
We will be having a build day at the FIRST Washington Fieldhouse in Kent, WA on Sunday, October 20 from 9-3.This is an opportunity for you to bring your robot (or robot parts) tools and students to our shop to get to know and learn from some other teams in the area.It is an open house format, you can just stop in or come for the entire time, whatever works for your team.
We plan to have one of our FTA’s on site to help with programming and connection questions along with one of ourLead Robot Inspectors to assist with building/design questions.
We will also have a field on site for anyone who is wanting to get on a field.
