Congratulations teams!
Congratulations to the teams that advanced or won awards from our first weekends events! I was lucky enough to attend the Saturday Snohomish event for a little while, and it was so nice to see teams competing in person!
I will be getting a list of award winners up on our website by the end of this week!
Event Information
If you don’t know what event you are assigned to attend, check here- https://firstwa.org/first-lego-league-challenge/challenges/event-schedule/
Don’t see your team? Have you paid your FIRST Washington invoice? Email me if you have questions or need help!
Please read the whole thing, there is a bunch of info! The below info is for every event but the 2 in Tacoma.
Teams for this weekend- you have been sent judging signups, and have been added to the remote event hub for judging. The remote event hub is where you will upload any judging paperwork you wish to share with the judges. You do not need to upload a project presentation video or a robot design presentation video. You are welcome to upload pictures of your robot and a copy of your teams robot code. You have until friday at 5pm to upload. This is also where you will find the link for your judging sessions once they are added to the event hub.
Teams for this weekend will be receiving their robot game schedules tomorrow. You should also receive an email from your event host with any relevant info.
Teams for next weekend- you have been sent your judging signups. Your teams will be added to the event hub on Monday. You will have to the Friday before your event at 5pm to upload any documentation. You will receive your event schedules Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
Judging is remote over zoom or teams, you are to attend your judging session somewhere other than the venue for your in person robot game. The session link will be in the event hub.
Doors for the in person robot game will not open until 11am.
Team check in is from 11-12
practice time is from 12-1
coaches meeting at 12:30
opening ceremonies at 1:30

Awards will be at the conclusion of the qualification matches
Teams that win awards will send one student representative to collect their award. Medals will be handed out to the coaches at the end of the event. Your rubrics will be available in the event hub.
Info for the Tacoma Events-
You have been sent your judging and robot game signups. Your teams will be added to the event hub on Monday. You will have to the Friday before your event at 5pm to upload any documentation.
Judging is remote over zoom or teams, you are to attend your judging session somewhere other than the venue for your in person robot game. The session link will be in the event hub.
This event has strict capacity limits set by the school. No more that 1 adult for every 4 students may attend the event. Please make sure you communicate this with your teams parents. There are no additional spectators allowed at the Tacoma events. Each team has a 1 hour time block to attend in person. Please do not arrive at the event more than 10 minutes before your scheduled time, and please pack up in a timely manner and leave the venue when you are finished.
Medals will be handed out to coaches when they check in. Awards will be shipped to the winning teams. There will be a combined award ceremony for the two Tacoma events on Sunday at 6pm. You will find the link in the event hub next week.
COVID Reminder
Our updated COVID Policy is posted on our website. https://firstwa.org/covid-updates/
You should all read the official policy but here are some important things to know:
- All event volunteers (which includes mentors/coaches) are required to be vaccinated.
- Participants 12 and over need to show either proof of vaccination or negative COVID test at the door (Negative PCR test within 5 days or a negative rapid test)
- Spectators (if allowed, that is up to the venue) 12 and over need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test at the door (Negative PCR test within 5 days or negative rapid test)
- Masks are required for All participants
Teams will be required to turn in their roster at every event (this is our contact tracing method for students and mentors/coaches and a FIRST rule)
Spectators will need to give contact tracing info at the door.
What we need from all of you
- Pack your patience and Gracious Professionalism. This is new to all of us.
- Volunteers will be checking Vaccination/Negative COVID Status so please treat them respectfully. If you have a concern, contact me but don’t yell at them, they have a tough job.
- Volunteers will be policing masks so again, treat them kindly and with respect (and ask your participants & spectators to do the same)
I know this is all inconvenient but focus on the positive, most of our students are able to attend in person events and connect with students from teams around them!
