    • City Shaper Coach Email Volume 17- 10/22/19 Event Registration Opened Friday 10/18! Volunteers Needed!

    Greetings Coaches! Welcome to CITY SHAPER!

     

      If you are new to this email this is the place where you will find all of the Washington specific FIRST LEGO League information. Coaches and team administrators in the FIRST system for the CITY SHAPER season will be added weekly. Starting this season, every email from me will be numbered. That number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our website.

    FIRST Washington Event Registration

    Event registration opened on Friday, October 18th at 4pm.

     

    You will not register through your dashboard at firstinspires.org, you will register through this link- http://bit.ly/flleventreg

     

    When you fill out your event registration, you will pick two preferences, please do not pick the same event for each one, if you do this and I am unable to place you in your first choice, I will place you in a random event with space. You will also indicate if the day or the location is more important to your team.

     

    Registration is first come first serve and some events will fill up fast

     

    When you are confirmed in an event it will not show up in your dashboard, the only place to check will be on firstwa.org. I will be posting a status list on the website in the next week or so that will show if you have completed your event registration.     Teams are placed in events once their event registration is completed and their event registration fee of $350 is paid. I do not have a date of when those invoices will go out, but it should be in the next week or two. Once teams are placed, I will be posting an event team list on the website. This will go up the first full week of November. Please don’t schedule transportation until then, as you are not confirmed in an event until that list is posted.

    Volunteer Requirement for Events

    Each team is expected to recruit or provide at least one adult volunteer to work a full day at a FIRST LEGO League Qualifier event this season.

    Consider this:

    In Washington, we have over 650 FLL teams

    Each event requires approximately 55 volunteers (for a 1 day commitment)

    Washington hosts 23 events over the first 2 weekends in December

    That means there are OVER 1,200 volunteer rolls that need to be filled over those two weekends!!!

    We are in need of adult volunteers, but we especially need adult judges! (20-30 per event approximately)

    Please reach out to your mentors/parents/teachers/neighbors/community and help us fill all of these rolls.

    This is the best way for coaches to learn about the judging process.

    We want to inspire these young students to be technology leaders!

    Recruited volunteers should go to the FIRST website, www.firstinspires.organd create an account or log in. Volunteers will complete the process for background screening and should select the event where they want to volunteer.  

    Volunteers with an affiliation to your team should work at an event where the team is not competing. When you fill out your event registration, coaches will be asked to provide the name of your volunteer for this season. Start recruiting now!
