Next virtual pits Saturday, Jan 2, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm with FTC teams
Our first virtual pits for 2021 will be Saturday, Jan 2 at 11:00 am. Based on feedback from the last round of virtual pits, we ask each team that hosts a pit to have a short 5 min presentation about their team which will allow 5 min for Q & A at the end. We will be announcing when it is time to switch pits for the first hour and the second hour will be much more free form.
We have invited our FTC teams in Washington to join us in this virtual pit session and are excited at the opportunity for you all to socialize together.
Once again, please fill out this form if you either want a pit or would like to host a workshop during the virtual pits (you can do either, both or neither!) Not interested in hosting a pit or a workshop, no problem! Stop by just to see what everyone is up to and chat with other FIRST folks from the PNW (and possibly other regions)
General FIRST WA Zoom Account is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Kickoff January 9
For those of you who missed the FIRST blog about kickoff, you can find it here Since we can’t meet in person on the 9th, we have decided to do some remote brainstorming sessions over zoom. Here is where we need your help. We have a 500 person zoom account and depending on how many attend, that may not be large enough. We are asking each team to take a minute to poll your students and mentors so you can give us a reasonably accurate count or how many plan to attend these sessions. Once you have your count, please fill out this form to let us know how many from your team to expect.
We plan to start these sessions right after kickoff ends (which should be around 9:40 pacific time) and will run them until noon or until everyone has decided that they have strategized enough!
I will send a zoom link out the week before kickoff once I have a better idea of headcount.
Message from Kevin Ross about the FIRST Washington Fieldhouse
Hi Teams,
I wanted to let you know about some news from FIRST Washington. Many of you already know that we have a Fieldhouse in Kent WA that we use as our offices and staging area for all FIRST programs in Washington state as well as the PNW. This building has been our home since 2013. During normal years, this facility has provided us with a great space to work in. It is, however, quite expensive for us to keep while we are not able to run in person events and staff are now working remotely from home. In terms of a building, it is also a little large for what we need. Additionally, We are expecting increases in our rental costs when our lease renews next fall. Buildings cost by the square foot, we have too many for our needs.
We have made the decision to put our equipment in storage until next fall and move out of our fieldhouse. This will create a huge savings for FIRST Washington and will allow us to continue operating remotely. We will move into a new smaller building in the fall to resume our field operations for the 2021-2022 season. We expect to be out of our existing building by Feb 1st.

Take care everyone, have a safe and happy holiday and fabulous new year!
