Infinite Recharge Coach Email Volume 6 – 10/8/20 Registration and Coaches Chat comments & Notes
Greetings Coaches!
If you are new to this email this is the place where you will find all of the Washington specific FIRST Robotics Competition information. Coaches in the FIRST system for the INFINITE RECHARGE season will be added once teams are able to register for events. Every email from me will be numbered and that number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our website.
Here is what I have for you today:
- Registration is now open!
- Coaches Chat notes and recording link from last night
- By request, next Coaches Chat, Tuesday, Oct 20 7:00 pm
Registration has opened for FRC teams!
Registration opened October 6 for FRC teams. Here is what we know (cliff notes version):
- Teams will be registering for the season at this time, not for a specific event
- FIRST has created some remote challenges that you will have access to (among other things) when you register. For more detailed info on these challenges, click here
- To be eligible for HQ grants, you need to be registered
- To submit for Chairman’s, Woodie Flowers and Dean’s list this season you need to be registered
- There will be online “tools” available to teams that register.
In short, there will be lots of opportunities for teams that register. In January, FIRST will evaluate whether in person events can happen this spring in certain areas and we will move forward once we have a decision from them.
The earliest competitions would start this season is mid to end of March.
FIRST will be shipping your kit of parts directly to each team this season at no cost to you! Please be sure to check your kit ship address to be sure your kit arrives at the appropriate place (many of you may not want it to go to your school this year)
For detailed instructions on how to register and confirm your kit shipping address, click here.
For those of you who missed the coaches chat last night, I will be sending a separate email out tomorrow or Friday detailing out how fees will work this fall and what we know about fees in the event we are able to hold in person events.
Coaches Chat notes from this past Tuesday, Oct 6 7:00-8:00 pm
I would like to thank everyone who attended last night’s Coaches Chat. It was so nice to see so many faces and I loved all of the dialog! Last night was a bit unique in that we had a decent amount of information to present, our goal is to spend no more than 15 minutes talking at all of you so that you can all talk amongst each other and share ideas!
For those of you who missed it, we went over some of the offerings this season and what fees look like in the PNW in addition to having some great discussion on other topics. I did make a recording (Though I missed the very beginning which really was just an overview of the evening) The recording will be posted by the end of the day today, to view the recording, click here
Additional Coaches Chat Tuesday, Oct 20 at 7:00 pm by request
There was so many good discussions last night that I asked if coaches wanted a second opportunity to chat and the response was an overwhelming yes! As a result, I scheduled a second meeting for October 20 at 7:00 pm. (meeting info is at the bottom of this communication)
I am also going to try utilizing break out rooms so you can all get more out of these meetings. I am going to ask ALL of you for your grace on the 20th as I get my bearings and learn how to do what many of you are now experts at!
To keep the meetings more productive, we would like to focus on 3 topics. I decided rather than emailing me which might get lost, I would love for people to take just a minute and fill out this form if they have a particular topic they want to discuss. click here to access this form. Kevin and I will look at it prior to the meeting and see which topics you all seem to be the most interested in discussing and we will focus our meeting around those.

I want to end by saying I am so proud to be part of the PNW. I love how positive you all are and that you really focus on solving the problems and rising to the challenge so we can all accomplish what is really important, engaging more students in STEM. ORTOP and FIRST Washington are right along side you and it is our goal to make sure everyone finds a place this season and is able to stay engaged with their community.
