FIRST Washington is an organization that, at its heart, is reliant on the giving of volunteers. Nothing speaks to that more than David and Christine McKinnon and their four children. For fifteen years, all members of the McKinnon family have been involved with FIRST, with David leading the FIRST LEGO League tournaments, all four of their kids participating on teams and volunteering and Christine playing a key volunteer role and eventually running the FIRST Tech Challenge Tri-Cities League. They have been a critical part of the success of these programs within our Mid-Columbia region and the compassion they have shown the kids serves as an inspiration for us all. As they move on to other exciting opportunities, the FIRST Washington family would like to thank the McKinnon Family for all your service and wish you well in your future endeavors.
Twenty-three Title 1 schools are participating in FIRST programs as part of a 3 year commitment from Amazon Future Engineers. At the heart of this work is team XBot, Franklin High School’s students, alumni and mentors. With FIRST Washington’s commitment to bringing FIRST programs into communities where STEM is not a natural, we are grateful for the work that team XBot and their mentors, especially Donna Lew and Troy Barnes in helping break down the intimidation of STEM through robotics. Another shout out to Randy Steele and Richard Corn for the professional development work.

FIRST Washington always needs help when it comes to volunteering. It doesn’t always mean coming to an event. We are currently looking for somebody with experience Salesforce and Smartsheet to volunteer their time helping us update our existing packages.
