Power Play Coach Email Volume 14: 11-15-22 – Interleague & State event dates are posted
Greetings Coaches & Mentors!
If you are new to this email this is the place where you will find all of the Washington specific FIRST Tech Challenge information. Coaches in the FIRST system for the Power Play season will be added weekly. Every email from me will be numbered and that number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our website.
Here is what I have for you today:
- Recording from last weeks Coaches Chat is posted
- Interleague & State Dates and Venues
- You will be able to start submitting your Dean’s List Nominees next week
- We are looking for volunteers for upcoming FLL & FTC events
- Onshape with Kevin Monday
Recording of Coaches Chat is posted on firstwa.org
The recording from the Coaches Chat last Thursday is posted on our website. Remember, as coaches you are responsible to know any pertinent info discussed. If you were unable to attend the meeting, please take a moment to at least review the slides. You can find the recording and slide deck here: https://firstwa.org/first-tech-challenge/resources/workshops-webinars/
Interleague & State event dates and venues
Our Interleague and State events have been posted on firstwa.org. You can find the information here: https://firstwa.org/first-tech-challenge/teams/event-schedule/
For a tentative schedule for the day, please look at the slides from last weeks Coaches Chat. We will post more specific schedules and email teams with specific event information the beginning of December.
We are looking for volunteers for our upcoming FTC and FLL events
We are running events the first 3 weekends in December. You can find a schedule of events here: https://firstwa.org/volunteer/
Many FLL/FTC events are at a disadvantage for volunteers since most of last year’s judging was remote. We need your help to fill volunteer roles so our FLL/FTC programs can have quality competitions.
• Interested in Judging? Sign up for FLL or FTC!
• Lots of other roles available for adults and students!
• Judging (need to be a minimum of 18 years old)
• Scorekeeping & more!
• Sign up via firstinspires.org or email Marak@firstwa.org for more information!
How to Register as an Event Volunteer
Or reach out if you’re interested in supporting our existing Volunteer Coordinators. Almost all of them are new this year so they can use as much extra-love as we can offer them.
Onshape with Kevin every Monday (Focus will shift more to FRC but all are welcome)
Onshape CAD Monday with Kevin (starting Nov 7 pm to 8 pm, this will be more FRC focused but FTC teams still welcome)
Online help learning about CAD using Onshape. This 90 minute session will help get you started and help solve your CAD issues using Onshape. Many of the techniques will apply to other CAD programs as well, but this one will specifically use Onshape. Learn about assemblies, importing parts from vendors like Rev Robotics and AndyMark, modifying parts, creating your own parts for 3D printing, and working with a team on a project. Onshape is free for every FIRST participant and runs on a wide array of hardware because it is web based. You will, however, want a three button mouse. Specifically, a mouse with a left and right button plus a center scrolling mouse button. You can get one for about $6 from Amazon prime. CAD programs work very poorly on laptops with finger pads (trackpads).
Onshape CAD will be applicable to both FTC and FRC. All are welcome.
Meeting ID: 829 1381 7510
We will make every attempt to record and upload these sessions to Youtube each week. Check our FIRST Washington Youtube channel and the ‘with Kevin’ playlist.
