What is FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge?

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge is a learning opportunity designed for youths grades 4-8 to tackle real-world challenges. FLL Challenge is the largest program within FIRST® Washington, with nearly 700 teams each year. Students get to brainstorm, solve problems, build, and compete using their creations.

FLL Challenge teams are formed in schools or other youth-based organizations and are led by two or more adults organize and mentor the students, while the youths work on the challenge. Students work as a team to research a problem within their community and prepare a presentation about it, and build a robot to complete missions.

Each year, FIRST® provides teams around the world with an annual challenge that is based on a set of real-world problems that scientists and engineers are facing today. FLL Challenge teams will work together to complete the challenges two parts: the Robot Game and the Project.

Volunteers and teachers are the lifeblood of the program – they make it happen. Volunteering with FIRST® Washington is a great way to impact today’s youth in a new and exciting way, and there is a unique role for every person.

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge is preparing youth to be the future leaders of the STEM field by approaching robotics as a team sport rather than a classroom subject.
