Important OSPI Grant Information- For FLL Challenge teams

If you are a Washington State public school or Tribal Compact school, you are eligible for the OSPI grant!

We have made a lot of improvements to the grant system for the upcoming year and are excited to share them with you!

  • The grant will open Wednesday, August 28 and close Friday, Sept 20 (remember, late grants will not be accepted so please make sure your grant is submitted by September 20)
  • We now have one link to the grant for all 3 programs.  Click here to stay updated and find the application link.
  • There is now the ability to add collaborators so more than one person can have access to the grant.
  • If you are interested in using the collaborator function, be sure to attend our OSPI meeting on September 10th at 7 pm.  We will be going over how to set this up in detail on this meeting.
  • Team #’s and payment info will be entered on the application itself, not after the application has been submitted.
  • To receive funding, teams must be registered both with FIRST Inspires (which means your registration for the current season with FIRST Inspires must be paid or secured with a PO) and FIRST Washington.

For those who are new to filling out this grant or have questions, we will be holding an information meeting on Tuesday, September 10th at 7 pm.    Feel free to share this link with any adult you are working with as a coach to fill out our OSPI grant.  This meeting is not for students or parents on your team, and we will only be addressing questions that relate to the OSPI grant (If you have questions about your specific program, please attend your program specific coaches chat.)

Submit a video thank you to the Washington State Legislature

FIRST Washington is hosting a Legislative Day on February 20th at the capitol building, where board members and staff will be advocating for STEAM funding on behalf of FIRST Washington teams. But we need your help!

Interested in helping out? We need teams from all over the state to submit impactful videos showing the legislature why FIRST Washington programs are important to you!

Your video does not have to be fancy, and we encourage everyone to get creative!

But it should include the details below –

  1. Your team saying “Thank you to our State Legislators ______ and Governor Inslee for supporting FIRST Washington!”
  2. We are FIRST Washington team NAME, NUMBER, from SCHOOL in CITY.
  3. What does FIRST Washington mean to us?
  4. Show what your team has been doing this season and how support from the legislature has helped your team.

The video should be no longer than 5 minutes. Please send a shareable link with the video file to Outreach Manager Adrianna Miller adriannam@firstwa.org  by February 14th at 5:00pm.

The email should contain your – Program, team number, team name, school, city.

It helps if you post your video on your team’s YouTube page and share the link with us, or have it online somewhere. This will be easier for us to show the videos to your legislators.
